Voice one

The Schedule

Says there's no room. Arrives as logistics, which feel like facts. Usually it's a policy you set years ago and never revisited.

Voice two

The Fear

Never announces itself as fear. It announces itself as wisdom, and it says not yet — which becomes never without anyone noticing.

Voice three

The Script

Says this isn't who you are. The story about what a life is supposed to look like, absorbed before you were old enough to evaluate it.

Where this comes from

These three voices are Chapter 0 of my book. I put them first, before anything else, because you can't uninstall a program you can't hear running.

Most people can guess which one is theirs and get it wrong. The voice that limits you is rarely the one you'd name — it's the one that sounds most like good sense.

The life you didn't live doesn't haunt you loudly. It just quietly fails to exist.

Where should I send the rest?

What this voice is costing you, one thing to do about it today, and seven days of interrupting it. Plus the other two voices, so you can hear them in the people around you.

Chris Abazis is the author of Spontaneous As F*ck — nine principles, a pile of true stories, and something to do at the end of every chapter.

The three voices live in Chapter 0. Now that you know which one is yours, that's the chapter to start with.
